multiple identical books

Hello, I have multiple identical books. When I catalogued my books it had a place to put in how many copies. When someone signs out the book it signs out all of them as one book. How do I make it so it still shows the other available books? Do I have to list them all individually?

Yes, for purposes of check-out, you have to list each indvidually

That's too bad. I'll do it that way, but that is just poor programming.

Bear in mind that LT did not intend to have a circulation feature when it was decided to let members say that they had multiple copies of a book. Using that check box only fills in a field in the database. It does not create separate records.

Circulation is a much newer feature, and has to work on the existing database.

I'm sure there are many aspects of LT that would have been done differently if Tim had known in 2005 everything he knows now. On the other hand, if he had had to consider each and every complication, we probably wouldn't have LibraryThing at all. If you want a library database conceived from the start to include circulation, with lots of bells and whistles, such things are available. If you want to pay for it.

>1 All-Saints: and >4 All-Saints: Sorry for the trouble. As >5 MarthaJeanne: mentioned, the "Copies" field on LT existed long before any lending capabilities or TinyCat were developed, so you'd need to catalog each copy of your book/s separately if you wanted to track lending for them.

Would it possible to add a duplicate listing button? Creating another copy of the book preserving your details that aren't common knowledge (except barcodes etc.)

We're in the process of developing our "LT2" (LibraryThing's major site redesign) version of Add books, and this functionality—adding multiple copies/copying a record from LT—has been requested by a number of members. We do have this on our minds and will be sure to announce any developments towards your request, thanks for your patience in the meantime!
