Belinda ending 2020

Finally a group that isn’t overwhelming. I easily read 75+ books per year but don’t want to feel driven to read or even keep up with a list. The pandemic has made it possible to stay home, not talk to folks and read with the best of excuses. Goals haven’t been my goal this year. Gardening, canning, sewing, taking care of fur babies, husband and reading in between is all I need. The world seems to be constantly screaming but with t almost gone maybe I will rejoin the world.

Read The Raven Boys yesterday. It kept showing up in threads and thought I’d try. Pleasant read and good character development. I care about these kids. Today I’m working on The Dream Thieves. Ordered a Fannie Flagg book. It’s cheaper to order a used hardback than a kindle version. I’m not sure I’ve ever read anything by Flagg.

Still reading a little Philo now and again. I would classify Philo as the first OT Bible commentary. And reading Yancey’s The Jesus I Never Knew is a nice thoughtful book. I’m trying to keep it to no more than 2 chapters a day and spend time absorbing the information.

Finished The Dream Thieves and Blue Lily, Lily Blue. Sent for a hard copy of The Raven King because the kindle price jumped from 5.99 to 11.99 which was irksome. A used copy including shipping was about 7. I read to much to give money away. While I wait for the hard copy I’ll start on Shiver.

I’m an Amazon Prime member but it’s not worth the savings. I’m downloading to much junk not worth reading. Dissatisfying books or porn disguised as romance or violent dripping in gore, yuck. It’s impossible to mesh with Bible study.

Finished Shiver and not loving it so moved onto The Way of Kings and it seems more interesting. Ordered the Collected Essays of N.T. Wright it’s a 3 volume set and should make for good reading. I have a few of his books and he has good depth and I always learn from him. Only criticism is he uses 10 words when 2 would work. Weather has turned cold and clear which is a nice change from pouring rain which was needed but I’m done. Need to plant more multiplying onions when it dries a little. There’s a big jump in Covid patients at the local hospital. Dark winter.

I d/c’d Shiver, but didn’t want to possibly poison your experience. I don’t think it’s an essential part of the Raven boys universe. It’s just a tie in?

No tie in that I could see. Appears to be a totally different series and not very interesting. The problem with a lifetime of reading is plots and story lines become repetitive. A younger reader could love this series and I’d hate to discourage anyone for giving it a go.

Started reading N. T. Wrights essays. NT is one of the most difficult of writers to read. Complicated sentence structure and $10 words and my vocabulary isn’t small. He has multiple college degrees and speaks multiple languages. I’m having to write out definitions in my book like a third grader. Bet he was beat up lot when he was a kid. Love his depth.

Also reading Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings which I’m enjoying. Doing a little searching on coins for errors. Sent for a better microscope. Spent most of morning hand piecing strips of scrappy blocks. Weather here is to cold and wet for doing much else.

Personally I love making lists, but I prefer reading slower threads, those that don't add 100+ posts per day. There are so many other things in RL that require my attention like spouse, critters, family, job, books...I just can't see spending hours reading comments, no offense to anyone here.

Anyway, I'll be checking back to see how you're doing.
