Read the remainder of this thread if you'd like to know the background to the day.
I dug up the old thread and see that I posted this, and got some favorable responses.
"I just got the idea that we could schedule another "Do Nothing But Read" day for just after we poor Yanks (US of A) have filed our income tax returns. How would April 23rd, a Saturday, suit you? Will you be willing to read all day, save for a few breaks for necessities such as posting in The Green Dragon how you are doing?"
What do you think NOW?
Shall we do it?

If there is enough interest, say at least 4 to 6 people, I'll do it. I have the big Dewey Read-a-thon on the 9th but would consider doing this one instead if there are enough people. I feel lost in the crowd in the Dewey one.

This, like most things in this little pub, has very very flexible rules. No one has to be reading ALL DAY...only do what you want to read. Hopefully, each participant will post in the "report" thread and note others postings which is what will make it a community effort, but other than that...read, eat, lounge, read, whatever.... even go to the movies, if you need to do that.
5DragonFreak
I'm up for it. The last one, I don't know where I was, but I totally spaced it off.
6Tane
I had a go at the last one - with limited success... however this one I'm all over it. I might just make it on the 29th of April instead... it's Royal Wedding Day, so there won't be a huge amount going on in my house...
7reconditereader
I'll give it a shot! It would be good to remind me again later, though, cuz I have minimal brainage.

It is looking good as we've got several nibbles. One idea I picked up from the 76 book challenge's read-thons is to have several books, some lighter fare as well as your most challenging, so that you can move between books, should the spirit move you. So what books do you think you might pile up next to your chair?
I am sure my current big book, River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey will be with me.

I will (tentatively ) add myself to the list of others wanting to join in. I add the tentative part bc I know not my schedule yet for April as of yet...
It also depends on the whereabouts of those I share the house with. Nearly everytime I schedule a blissful period of reading undisturbed, they are prone to see it as "free time", which means they think I should be engaged it what they irritatingly refer to as "something more productive with my time".
Oh, the sufferings of living amongst non-readers!
However, I shall do my very best to attend your gathering, Maggie! :O)

Yay, PandorasRequiem, and millhold! I am glad you are joining Morphidae, majkia, DragonFreak, Tane, reconditereader, OldSarge, and me. Seems like a lively, and diverse group of readers.

I'm up for a day inside a book.
April 23 being St George's Day there may even be dragons involved.

I am bumping this up again in order to recruit some more intrepid readers....

Woohoo. I just finished doing our taxes last night so I'm going to join in as my reward. I won't be able to read all day but I've discovered a naughty thing that'll help me read most of the day. I've been loading my ereader up with some of my course material for study purposes. My family will leave me be when they know I'm trying to study but they can't tell what I'm actually reading on the ereader. I think I'll be studying all day the 23rd... ;o)
Ooooh, the betrayal of trust I'm contemplating...
But, unless I'm all caught up, I'll really be doing some studying, but I'm also going to look for some short stories online to transfer to the Sony. Plus I have an ER ebook of short stories, some graphic novels from the library and whatever novel I have going at the moment which I'll use to fill out our DNBR day.

Oh, it seems like a good day shall be had by all!

My kids' school had their annual Read in Day on Friday. Kids are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring sleeping bags, a stuffy and some books to read. They move the desks and chairs out of the way, set up their sleeping bags and get comfy for a full day of reading and being read to. I think I may implement a Read in Day at work ;o)
This year it just happened to coincide with the BC Librarians Association's 100th anniversary celebration and the grade 1s were invited to the Legislative Building to participate. The Minister of Finance was there to read them a story, and so was a mystery kids' author (but my grade 1er can't remember who it was, arrggg). Heehee, the organizers were rather excited when they learned the 50ish 6 and 7 year olds they invited were coming in their pajamas. I would so loved to have seen it all.

April 23rd sounds good to me. I really really need to make some inroads on the TBR pile!
21Vanye
Count me in! I have just finished The Hobbit & am starting on When Christ and His Saints Slept w/another LT group & that is going to take awhile. Since I am involved in an event this coming week which will leave me little or no time for reading that sounds like a plan to me! 8^)
22reconditereader
I totally want a day where everyone comes to work in PJs and reads. Oh yes.
23Citizenjoyce
Ooo, PJ's and reading. Count me in.

The LT Readathing (http://www.librarything.com/topic/113946) is happening the same day - that's usually not 'each person (try to) read for a full day', but we schedule things so there's at least one person reading every hour for 24 hours. Since the 23rd is the day before Easter, I wouldn't be able to read for a big chunk of time, but an hour or two works fine, usually.
(Morphidae posted over there and lured me to look at yours.)

Horray for luring...we like to encourage reading! Yes, we do.

Do you all mind if I publicize your DNBR Day along with the LT Readathing? Blog/Facebook/Twitter/SOTT?
Let me know if you'd rather I didn't, or if it's okay to shout it from the rooftops. I'm planning to join in, if only I can keep the LT fires banked for that day :-)

#26 - My impulse would be to say 'Shout away!' But I'm going to leave this decision up to maggie1944, as she's the member organizing it.
28maggie1944
I'm happy to have you "shout out" to the world. The more the merrier but I need to say my "host" duties will be much less active than that of the the 75 book challenge hosts. I hope to encourage all to post questions and comments which will stimulate the readers to post during the day.
I am assuming I'll pay attention on Saturday, April 23rd but maybe not so much on other days nearby.

I'd love to but I can't. Best wishes to all the partcipants..Happy Reading!
31pokarekareana
Ooooooooooooooh this sounds like my kind of readathon. I'm not sure what I'm doing on 23rd, but I am definitely free this Sunday so I might have a dress (or maybe pajama?!) rehearsal then.
32fairywings
I have all week to catch up on things around the house so next saturday sounds like a great day to curl up with books all day, would love to join in.
33MrsLee
Hmmm, my only day off is the 22nd, so I may do it that day, sort of get the vibes ready for you all. ;)
34maggie1944
Oh, Pre-Event Party. Great idea, MrsLee.
35clamairy
I won't be able to just read 'full bore' but I'll be participating as much as I can that day. So, maybe I'll call it "'do nothing but read and keep the family fed' day."

I get to read all day that day! No work! I already picked the book and the chair I will take up and I will be happy. Yay.
also: The Island of the day before by Umberto Eco is my reading as I've had it for years and never taken the time to just get it read. Oddly, Foucault's Pendulum? Couldn't put it down for a week.
The superglue may have had something to do with that.
hm.

Definitely going in on this one; I did Dewey's, but I had to take quite a few hours off for study and a test and for "something" (I can't remember what) with my child(ren). Off to the sign up page!
40millhold
Well, I'm going to be reading all that day, in fact all that weekend, but I won't be able to post, as I don't have the internet at home. Will that still be okay? Can I post on the Monday, when I get back to work?
This time, I won't have a big glass of wine with my lunch, since--last time--it caused me to have a HUGE nap in the middle of my do nothing but read time.

Maybe we should ask maggie1944 to include that last bit as a warning on her suggestions list.

I also have the Island of the Day Before and have not read it. It's on that day's reading list if I finish Polgara the Sorceress
44lammassu
Awesome, I so need a 24 hour readathon. I'll start things off with some Nietzsche, and then move to something more enjoyable like Arthur C. Clarke's Venus Prime.
