À mon sujetI wish I had more time to read books, but I'm also an internet junkie. Too bad I lose one third of every day to this nasty sleeping habit I've developed. I still have a big bunch of books to add. I'm putting it off because they are very old, and will have to be entered manually.

I'm just crazy about LibraryThing, and I am often to be found drinking virtual pints and nibbling virtual cheeses in LibraryThing's best pub, The Green Dragon, which has become my second home.

À propos de ma bibliothèqueI started collecting books at the age of 15. As I've grown older I've been collecting them at a much faster rate than I can actually read them, much to my distress. I have recently realized I've read less than half of what I own. So, why am I always in here yammering, when I should have my nose in my books? Because it addicting, that's why.

Oh and I forgot I was going to ask Tim to fix that other problem
God damn, there goes my morning. Ok, so I thought that picture you showed me could use some more Khan, but then things went dangerously out of control.

I cut it out of some motivational poster that I turned up on Google. My Trek-Fu is weak so I'm not sure which episode it's from. My first thought was that one where they go to that planet full of nymphomaniacs. When everybody in the landing party (even Worf) is about to get lucky, then Wesley goes and gets his stupid ass sentenced to death. That's Picard flipping him off for ruining everybody's night. Fucking Wesley.
I sure hope we lose that troll soon, although his later comments weren't so bad (yes, I looked anyway--I guess just blocking helps to soften the distraction).

BTW, I just saw Rosie's pics earlier today. She looks like a sweetie!
How old is she now?
Glad you like my picture, I've decided to upload only Star Trek related images in the future.

Ooh, too cute.
Thanks for looking at my pics! I have so many more piles that I want to organize. I actually had a woman in this week to give me ideas on how to put more shelves in my room. Her advice (in all seriousness) was to make sure the floor was going to hold up. ;)

Oh, and I'm very jealous of your antique books. Such a pretty collection! -Emma
Question? I noticed you are a member of the Green Dragon, I have stopped there several times to check it out but no one is there. When do you get together? It would be fun to chat with other book lovers.

P.S. Rosie is so cute!
We have also been to Frontier Medicine with another dog, Abby. We saw Dr. Maybank who was great. She worked with our regular vet and helped to diagnose Abby with Addison's disease and in turned saved her life. It is amazing how veterinary medicine has changed and improved.

If you look at my profile photos you can see our 3 dogs crunched together, Noah on the right, Belle a Blue Tick Coonhound we adopted 1 1/2 years ago , and Abby "The Queen" of the pack. Belle likes to crawl in between to keep warm and they don't seem to mind.
LOL! At 188lbs I never thought of Noah as being small. Yes, he is a Saint and a very silly one at that.
I see you are from East Granby, we used to take one of our dogs to see Dr. Elliot for accupunture there. I can not remember what street she was on but it was a wonderful practice. Very caring and friendly atmosphere.

The oldest I am sure of was published in 1853. It's on the bottom shelf, in the center, with the red gilded cover. It's The Oasis by N. L. Ferguson. I still haven't added any of these to my library. I will need to scan each cover.

That shelf is perfect for those books!
Thanks Clam-one! Those really jog the memory!

Who can forget the tormenting derisive voice of the man's virago of a wife?
LOL, yes. I find myself caught up in it, on occasion. At the moment, I am in the midst of a one-sided contretemps with one of the buzzards, although I am in a discussion, and the buzzard apparently sees himself in a barroom brawl. It's difficult to have an intelligent discussion with persons possessing a proclivity to bash one over the head with their point of view. I will exit the 'conversation' with that party, and have a single malt to clear my head. Where I am, it's just about that time.
Merci, and it seems to be part of the Yin and Yang of LT.
Thank you for your good wishes for Greta Garbo. She is still sleeping on the sofa and requesting service and sympathy from the rest of the household. It is early to know, but she does seem like maybe the foot is dragging a little bit less. I am so hoping it is just a temporary deal, like a bruise on a nerve.

Thank you for the invite to Happy Heathens. I do think I will enjoy it.
Oooops, happy birthday as well, I haven't checked this site in a couple weeks.... :>)
*Waves back* - holiday not too stressful?
And here as well... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D
Thanks clam! I would like to be one of your LT friends ;-)
Hope you enjoy Little, Big - I think you will. I have to read more Eliot, I've only read Middlemarch, but it's one of my favorites.
Thanks, clammy, I did. Spent a lot of time reading this weekend - Brothers Karamazov. Also we went to see the lovely George Clooney tonight. It was a pretty decent movie and George is so pretty.

Hope your birthday is nice, as well.
Hi clamairy,

Can you please add this old goat to the GD Birthday List? DOB is the 1st so a New Year's Day baby.

Thanks Dave
Wow - you are at 1999 in your collection! Are you planning a special book of some sort to make #2000? :D
Tickled pink with my SantaThing books. Thanks very much for making the suggestion :-). You're so good to everyone Clare! And it was fun having aviddiva as my Santa too.

I signed up about an hour ago. :) You are wonderful. Is there any way I can repay you that doesn't involve a cheesy e-card with dancing penguins and Vivaldi's "Spring" playing in the background?
Whoa. Tell me you didn't make that cake for today. Cause if you did, that would be just too awesome for words!
Hey, sweetie: I just visited elfschild's profile, and she has a picture book called "Clam-I-Am." I think that would deserve a permanet pride-of-place in the Green Dragon library, don't you? Bibliographically yours, Mary Lou
Thanks, Clare.

I can't imagine what she and her family are going through. I think she would appreciate the gesture.

Damian will be 6 months old on the 12th. He's a little handful.

Carrie
I'm sorry to hear the clamkids are sickly, hope they start feeling more perky and healthy soon. AND that you don't get sick too!

Take care of yourself,
hugs,
Katherine

p.s. I think you might enjoy this book I'm reading now, The Birth House, it's so good!
I wasn't going to read it because of the Gimmick, but David Christian of "Maps of Time" says its a wonderful book and I thought who the hell am I to argue with him? (I've got enough people to argue with LOL) So I bought it and I am hoping the Gimmick doesn't make me crazy.
Hey Clare -- how is After the Ice -- I bought it but haven't started it yet?
Thanks for the Thanksgiving good wishes m'dear! Wonderful holiday, great food, dear family, beloved husband, I have so, so much to be thankful for. Now, if hubby were only living with me... But I guess I shouldn't be greedy.

Hope you and yours are well, I think of you often.

hugs
Katherine
Eclectic indeed: From The Long Walk to The Pale Blue Dot -- an eclectic and exhilarating journey!
Honored by the "Interesting libraries" addition --

I see you're entering the plague books!
Acck...actually, the "Mentalist" is the "Alienist" (I have no idea why I subsitute those words!)...and I think that Teddy was actually in "Angel of Darkness"....

Anyway, how are things? Is the Wraithlette almost old enough for college?
I think I just have too many fiction books in my head. Like "The Mentalist". I remember the bad kids in the Bowery and the evil guy (was there a woman too?) using them as his "gang", I remember Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders coming in to clean them up. I remember one of the main characters having terminal tuberculosis, but I can't remember what the main point of contention was. But there are books I liked less that I remember far more from. :D
Oh yeah, you are jogging my memory. I was mixing it up with another book that I can't remember the title of about modern relations of old island families who were unraveling an old murder mystery. Yikes...
BTW, how many of your books are actually entered here? I always just enter ones that cross my mind, even paperbacks alone I would never remember all the ones I have stored here and there. Like I have all Leon Uris, Delderfield, Clavell, Michener, practically all of Taylor Caldwell etc. Even popcorn books like Dean Koontz and a lot of others. But I just have the free account here (200 book max), so I enter one or two from authors.
I did read it, but years ago. I'm dimly remembering a plot about people killed who were trying to sell biotoxins? I think I did like a lot of the local history in it. I have to admit that I read so many adventure novels that they all run together, I have a much better memory for historical books (because I am deciding as I am reading whether the author is making an effective case). ;)
What'd you think of "Letter to a Christian Nation"?
Thanks anyway.
Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Just saw your comment on Sodapop's comments.

I once got in trouble at work, actually written up, for spending too much time reading in the bathroom.

Heh.
OHHH It came by USPS. Wohoooo! MUST. BE. SOCIABLE.
Still no sign of it. Maybe I should start complaining to UPS. On the bright side my mother just arrived from England with several of my favourite books from my childhood. So that will make the wait more tolerable.
Well let's hope Brown can do for me what they did for you. Although New York to Georgia versus New York to Connecticut in the same amount of time seems unlikely doesn't it?
OH. I'm going to wait for my mailman now like some kinda stalker. Let's hope for his sake, he has it!
yep. It got ugly..... srsly
I'm still waiting. Are you still waiting? I want it NOW! Gosh Darn it.
Wohoooo very excited about A Supremely Bad Idea. I really wanted that or the travel collection edited by Bryson. I'm not really a birder - I like watching them in my garden - but I'm a big fan of wacky, slightly wierd, humourous travel writing.
