À mon sujetI'm an economist doing research on real estate investing.

À propos de ma bibliothèqueI keep track of books that we've read in my book club, or other books by those authors, because we've set a rule that the book club won't select more than one book by a given author. I also keep track of books that are available on CD or cassette at our local libraries, because I listen to them with my kids on the drive to school.

Hi Brad,

Yes, there is so much to do at LT!
I had to go back and re-read Greenwillow in order to try to give it a fair description, but I certainly won’t do it justice. The author so enjoys her characters, who are simple and good, and is forgiving of their foibles, even as she pokes gentle fun. And the fun is constant and so clever.
For instance, a 6 year old boy is describing the capture of a runaway pig to his mother and the visiting preachers:

“He squealed like a sinner.”
Martha said quickly, “Beg the reverends’ pardon, Sheby.”
Sheby begged the reverends’ pardon, quite understanding that it was presumptuous to speak of sin in the presence of experts.

I love the richness of language and clever turn of image in old books, both fiction and non-fiction. You’ll notice that I cut off at about 1950. Before that date, just about any author is worth reading. After, most writing becomes very pedestrian, though there are some exceptions.

Hope you enjoy the book!

Ruth

Hi!
I followed you back from your posting of B.J. Chute's Greenwillow, one of my favorite books of all time. I'm so impressed by the size of your library on line. Have you really been uploading for just 3 weeks? I thought I was obsessed, but you are really focused!
I'll probably see more of your titles as I move into my children's collection.
Ain't LT a grand thing?!
