À mon sujetI have been gathering books since I was a little kid. I even went so far as to hide a bookcase in my closet, behind clothes after my dad said 'No more bookcases!' He eventually found it.

Fortunately I have a very understanding wife. This has allowed my library grow with no end in sight. When we go on vacations we follow a guide to used bookstores, not a guide to tourist spots.

À propos de ma bibliothèqueI collect books on subjects I am interested in. It doesn't matter if its hardcover or trade paperback, even mass markets are okay. I don't care if they are signed, have some underlining or have 'Merry Christmas from Mom and Dad' written in the cover. My only real criteria is that the book has a sound structure and isn't falling apart.

I am interested in a lot of areas - history, SF, natural history & writing, astronomy...

In history I tend to focus on 20th century conflict - WW 2, Cold War, Vietnam War, wars of liberation. Within this group my collection on the Vietnam War is the largest in my library.

In all these areas I am a completist. It really bugs me when I can only find a few volumes in a multi-volume set. The internet has made it both easier and harder to find missing volumes. Easier because there are more sources and harder because prices can be very inflated.

Because the Vietnam War is an interest of mine and such a big part of my library; I am listing books I recommend reading. Naturally, this list will change over time.
1. A Bright Shining Lie - Sheehan
2. Cat From Hue - Laurence
3. Vietnam: The History of an Unwinnable War 1945-1975 - Prados
4. A Cambodian Odyssey - Ngor
5. Any book by - Nolan
6. Shadow War - Conboy

Nope, no shopping for me this weekend. Gotta make it over to Midway one of these days.
You currently are Number one on my raw list of members with my books.
Are these trade paperbacks, or mass-market? If it's the former, then I'm going to curse myself for having to go back and check again.

They usually have all the Dozois trade paperbacks in the regular scifi alphabetical section. They were lots there last time that I didn't buy just because I didn't feel the shape they were in was worth it. And because I can often find them at Half Price.
Well, when you initially posed the question I had been thinking the same thing myself, about the viability of some countries. Unfortunately everything gets politicized these days so people use the topic to blame Haiti's problems on the evils of American interventionism. I do enjoy Librarything's forums quite a bit, they were an unexpected side benefit of registering my books on this website. Certainly the conversation here can be a little bit more interesting than what I find on Facebook. I do have some regular e-mail pals with whom similar topics can be raised. But I find these discussions quite interesting, though sometimes they do get way off topic. The fact that many of the board participants are from non-US countries adds to the interest.
