A propos de ma bibliothèque
It took me some time to catalogue the books in my study. It was something I had been putting off until I had time and I almost didn't want to start in case I missed the anticipation. Then, having started, I had to wrestle with the morality of whether to include the books I was safeguarding for my daughter. Then, once I started, I found lots of old friends that I had almost forgotten and bits of text that I needed to befriend again. This slowed my progress but the study books are now completed. My collection is broad and doesn't focus on any particular theme. I have an interest in the art and literature and history of Medicine, hence the painting by Boyadjian. I love the quality and binding of my Folio collection and I enjoy books with quirky humour. I am amazed at the cross-matching of my collection with others of similar tastes.
A propos de moi
I retired early to give myself more time to pursue the other interests that had necessarily been put on hold for 30 years. I come from a family of readers and book lovers. As a child at Christmas, I always valued the book in my stocking. I discovered my local library when I was 8 and quickly learned how to get on the right side of the tough old librarian who loved all the books so much, she wasn't sure she wanted young people to take them out. I remember reading all the Biggles books and then starting on Gimlet. From there, I widened the range, under the watchful eye of the librarian. I went back to try to find the library of my childhood some years ago but the whole area had changed and it was nowhere to be found. When I had my own family, we went to the local library most weeks and both my children, though busy, also love books and have substantial libraries of their own. Now my grandchildren love reading as well - nothing gives me greater pleasure.
