Dan Savage has a way of speaking the unspoken, often uncharitable reaction a lot of us would have in a situation. I think he calls it Tourettes. I especially enjoyed two gestures he made/planned. An example of his good nature: he gives the most appropriate gift you could think of to the birth mother who is a gutter punk...a man's ID bracelet with the birth name of the child on it. I was excited to read another book by Dan Savage after I came out of an initially-tentative read of The Kid with a rare five-star read, but Skipping Toward Gomorrah fell more like confirmation of my low expectations. It's more ribald, more dated, more political, while also being less human and less enlightening. That doesn't mean a total waste of time (I actually learned a bit about fat admirers, swingers, guns, and escorts, and I giggled a bunch of times). But on the whole, Skipping Toward Gomorrah was about as shallow as I was expecting, and the "we're America, f*** yeah, we're special because everyone believes Americans have a right to do whatever the f*** they want" politics don't quite sit right with me these days.

A book truly deserving of being published - this collection of essays by people from all facets of sexuality (gay, lesbian, bi, trans, straight) and from various cultures, places, religions is overwhelming in its positivity and that`s a good thing. My fear was that it would be packed full of pieces by popular celebrities and while there are some in there, the book is mainly composed of stories of real people, young and old, all with a resounding message of loving oneself and standing up against messages of hate. This book should be in a `welcome` package for anyone recently coming out as queer but also lovingly placed into the hands of as many members of the straight community as possible.… (plus d'informations)
