Most of the book was good, but when I finished the last page I actually looked to see if pages had been torn out or lost; the end isn't an ending at all but simply where the author stopped writing.

A funny-but-sad look at the life of an Icelandic poet who is ostensibly representing his country at a Lithuanian poetry conference. The Ambassador has many threads to pick: I enjoyed following the influence of Gogol's "Overcoat."

The Ambassador is on my blog here.

All the way through this novel, by Icelandic author, Bragi Olafsson, I was thinking about "Waiting For Godot". The plot is a bit more elaborate, but nothing happens. Does that make any sense? Fears, memories, fantasies are omnipresent, yet nothing happens. This one is a bit of a fever dream, perhaps born of a deep Icelandic winter?
