Haley Fern has been the alpha of her local werewolf pack for less than a year when their law enforcement liaison retires, and Leland Sommers, a man who knows nothing about werewolves or their world, is hired in his place. What could be an awkward situation turns complicated when the man shows up his first day on the job with an injured teenage boy he found on the road–a boy Haley knows has just been bitten.
Let me first say: fun! I really liked this one. Nice characters with a lot of chemistry, Leland and Haley are made for each other.
The whole werewolves thing was interesting to say the least, Haley was elected to be the alpha. And there is a definite distinction between werewolves who are born that way, and who are made that way., which also becomes an issue in the book.
Are we difficult about bisexuality, homosexuality, trans people? No, because it was handled in an easy, normal way.
I really liked Haley and Leland, normal people with normal rounded bodies with love handles.
One thing, I saw very early in the story who would be the villain, that wasn't difficult to see.

Disclaimer: I got this book in the Librarything Early Reviewers.

This short story is about two extremely sweet people finding their way maybe toward each other despite some important obstacles, like scary clowns! :)

I'm impressed. I would like to give this double-full stars, please.

Each character is fully developed, living his life as well as he knows how, each interaction was written with keen attention but, and I can't stress this enough, never over-written. Never over-explained or excused, and never flinching during trouble, either. I forgot at times that I was reading words, I was so fully immersed in the world. The transitions are fantastic, the dynamic between the three men is at once sweet, attentive, and realistic, and the queer, working class, creative, polyamorous, public figure, and mental health representations are exceptional. Do not skip the Afterword, in which the author speaks to her own mental health journey, and where those quotes came from.

Wow.
