Creepy Schools is part of the 16-book Tiptoe into Scary Places series for kids! I came across these books on my library's digital site and just had to read them! I'm a sucker for spooky stories -- even versions for kids -- so I'm glad the library added some of the books in this series.

Each story in this book about spooky happenings at schools is illustrated with full-color photos and artwork. The books are very visually appealing with interesting and varied page layouts. This would be a good series to entice a reluctant reader to enjoy a book! I can also see some great uses in classrooms....writing prompts for students to write their own ghost stories at Halloween time, group reading, or just as fun, supplementary reading. Each book has a glossary of ghostly terms used in the stories, a short bibliography, a suggested reading list and weblink for kids who want to learn more about ghosts and scary places.

Creepy Schools is age appropriate for elementary students or middle grade. The tales are spooky but not overly scary.

I'm definitely going to read more of this series, and purchase a couple of the titles to send to my grand kids at Halloween!

Fans of spooks, goose bumps and scares will devour this book and be ready to spend the night with the blankets pulled over their heads.

New Orleans is rich with history...and by no means, only the good kind. This book takes a look at four local myths, the spooky kind. It begins with an introduction, which speaks of night, whispers, vampires and the walking dead, and sets the perfect atmosphere for the following tales.

These tales aren't grabbed out of the air but are based by historical facts. The buildings exist and are shown with a true-to-life photograph. The events which lead up to the modern day hauntings are also factual and include dates, names and events. Then the events are described, things which make people believe the ghosts remain in these spots. It's a very creepy mixture, which allows chills to run up and down the spine. At the end, there's a map of the city with the exact locations of each place mentioned. The follow glossary, index, reference material and website to discover more, give this a nice, educational touch.

The stories are not for sensitive readers and fit slightly older readers better, ages 6 to 10. These are perfect for all fans of creepy things and even teach a little bit of history and geography along the way.

I received a complimentary copy and found it so creepy that I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.

While I'm looking for more in-depth animal books for my juvenile nonfiction, this cute series from Bearport is just right for my easy reader nonfiction section.

The first spread has text in different shapes and formats, introducing the barn owl. Simple facts about the barn owl's behavior, habits, and unique attributes follow. In addition to the simple sentences on each page, there are additional facts highlighted in hot pink and occasional captions in yellow.

Additional information at the end includes quick profiles on three more owls, a brief glossary, index, and more information.

This is part of Bearport's Little Bits easy reader series. Unlike a typical easy reader, they have a square format, roughly 8x8. Although the endpapers have patterns, the backgrounds of the pages with text are solid white or other colors that don't distract from the words. The photographs match the text well and are engaging.

Although National Geographic is my first go-to for nonfiction easy readers, Bearport is a popular runner-up. Their titles are a little more expensive, coming in the library bound nonfiction range, but they have good deals if you buy sets and will be popular for a long time to come. This new series will please animal-loving young readers and encourage them to keep practicing their reading and learn more.
