A propos de l'auteur

Douglas Noel Adams (sometimes referred to Bop Ad because of his distinctive signature) was born in Cambridge, England, on March 11, 1952 and educated at St. John's College at Cambridge University. He graduated with honors in English Literature in 1974. In addition to being a writer/editor for afficher plus radio, television, and stage, Adams has worked as a hospital reporter, barn builder, and radio producer. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 1979, one of his bestselling humor and science fiction novels, was originally a radio series. It was the first in a four-book series that includes The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; Life, the Universe, and Everything, and So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish. He once stated that the idea for his first novel came while he was "lying drunk in a field in Innsbruck and gazing at the stars." He pokes fun at humanity by mixing science fiction with humor. Adams's additional books include The Meaning of Liff; The Deeper Meaning of Liff; Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency; The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul; and Mostly Harmless. He has also co-authored the book Last Chance to See, about endangered species. Douglas Adams died May 11, 2001 of a heart attack in Santa Barbara, California at the age of 49. Courte biographie: Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 – 11 May 2001) was an English writer, humorist, and dramatist. Adams is best known as the author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which originated in 1978 as a BBC radio comedy before developing into a "trilogy" of five books that sold more than 15 million copies in his lifetime and generated a television series, several stage plays, comics, a computer game, and in 2005 a feature film.

Dirk Gentle, détective holistique, tome 1 : Un… par Douglas Adams

De Sherlock Holmes à Philip Marlowe, il existe une longue tradition de détectives privés brillants, astucieux, à qui on ne la fait pas. Malheureusement, Dirk Gently n'en fait pas partie. Plus intéressé par la télékinésie, la physique quantique et les pizzas froides que par la chasse minutieuse aux indices, Dirk Gently emploie pour ses enquêtes des méthodes, disons... particulières, avec des résultats, disons... inattendus. Dirk Gently est un détective holistique.
Chargé - sans fierté excessive - de retrouver un chat disparu, Gently va être confronté à un fantôme ahuri, un voyageur temporel, un secret dévastateur plus ancien que l'humanité et qui menace de la mener à une fin prématurée... et à un cheval, qui trône nonchalamment dans une salle de bains.
En plus, le petit chat est mort.

Le plus grand roman policier, romantique, d'humour, de voyage dans le temps, d'horreur et fantastique jamais écrit.

Le Guide du voyageur galactique par Douglas Adams

Autant le film m'a fait légèrement sourire, autant je me suis vite ennuyé avec ce livre. J'ai bien peur que l’humour non-sens britannique n'ai pas très bien passé la barrière de la traduction. A moins que j'y soit tout simplement imperméable.

Pourquoi le tristement anonyme Arthur Dent se promène-t-il outrageusement affublé d'un sac en peau de lapin, un os dans le nez, au beau milieu d'une finale de cricket? Et que fait Manin, l'androïde dépressif, à asséner ses considérations suicidaires aux improbables habitants des marécages de Squornshellous Zeta ? Pas de panique ! Car l'inénarrable, l'irremplaçable Guide du voyageur galactique saura une fois encore tirer d'affaire nos malheureux astrostoppeurs égarés; et peut-être, privilège suprême, leur révélera-t-il enfin le Grand Mystère de La Vie, de l'Univers et du Reste!… (plus d'informations)
